2010 - The Year of Impact

by Derek Brown

For sometime now the numbers 9 and 11 have been coming to me, they are of course the numbers either side of 10 but 9/11 is of course symbolic of the day on 11th September 2001 when the world and our lives were changed forever. I sense that 2010 is now such a time in God and of such significance that our lives, out churches and the world will experience major spiritual impact, they will never be the same again.

Looking at everything

There was a sense in 2009 that it was a year when Jesus was 'looking around at everything' (Mk 11:11) This should not surprise us because the numerical meaning of 9 in the bible is 'to look at, to regard, or to gaze.' In the church here we have just concluded (as have many other churches a review, we have looked at everything we are doing. The day Jesus looked at everything was the day before he again visited the temple in judgement (and again the numerical meaning of 9 is judgement) Graciously we have had the opportunity to review our lives and remove the things that offend and the 'business' that so often stops the main purposes of God.

Alignment and Judgement

We have been told that 2009 is the year of alignment and this agrees with the sense of judgement and the invitation is to be in alignment with God, our hard hearts softened, our lives being lived in obedience to God, the 9 fruits of the Spirit evidenced and our hearts in fellowship with the Father (the last two meanings of 9) so that we may 'enter his rest.' (Heb 4:11)

After Jesus had 'looked around at everything' he visited the temple again and it seems that to those who have accepted his gaze and judged their own lives he will not come in judgement but with a fresh visitation as the prophet Malachi says: 'Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord
whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.' (Mal 3:1)

The purpose of the review is so that we are prepared for 10 and that is a number with a number of meanings.

Culmination of what has gone before

10 is the culmination of all that has gone before (1-9) so that we can expect many things that have been said to us over the last nine years to now be now have meaning and significance. On that basis these words will be relevant: Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God. (Ps 62:11)
Things that have been said to us before that we need to hear again will be spoken so that we can experience the full power of them.

Complete order

10 is the number of 'complete order' (not perfection) and the purpose the review is so that we may move into a whole new order of things.

The body

10 is the number of the body, ten is built into our anatomy, an ancient way of measure was to take ten fingers and make a mark and then measure again which meant that you had 'two hands worth.' 2010 will be a year of each member of the body functioning in order.

On to infinity

10 is the first of the triangular numbers with a centre, we shall as never before move from the centre of our being (which is Christ) and the progression of triangular numbers goes on to infinity so that what we will see in 2010 has great impact upon the future.

To conclude the symbol of 9/11 we have to turn to the meaning of 11.

11 is the number of perfect order plus one. This is one more than required or an extra measure. So this will be a time of extra measure, of somehing more than required.
There will be an overflow as we read in Ps 65: You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. You water its furrowsabundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth. You crown the year with your bounty; yourwagon tracks overflow with abundance. The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy. (Ps 65:9-12)

The first mention of the number 11 is found in Gen 32:22 there we read: The same night Jacob arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eletven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. (Gen 32:22)
It is on this night that Jacob wrestles with God (and with himself and with an angel) and finally receives the blessing that he has been crying for, it is the blessing of finding his identity: 'Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed." (Gen 32:28)

We shall find that in this year many of our struggles will stop and we will find a new identity from God and that in turn will release destiny. A greater authority will be released.

The eleventh son of Jacob was Joseph and Joseph means 'increase' and there will be as a result of people moving in their destiny significant increase in their lives and ministry.

It is interesting to note that mention has been made recently of a prophecy given by William Seymour (one of the leaders in the Azuza Street Revival) in 1910 and that was; 'that in 100 years there would be an outpouring of God's Spirit and His Shekinah Glory that will be greater and more far reaching than what was experienced at Azusa.'
